THIS HOLY GROUND PRAYER WALL
A Sanctuary of Prayer
"Prayers are tools, but with this clarification:
prayers are not tools for doing or getting, but for being and becoming."
—Eugene Peterson
"
So we are drawn into prayer
not by obligation
or by need or by desire,
but by divine Love.
God seeking. God waiting.
God wooing.
God pursuing.
This emphasis upon the loving heart of God
seeking us out is, of course, drawing from
a long and deep biblical tradition about prayer."
- Richard Foster

Lord, hear our prayers!
“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m
challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your
God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that."
- JESUS (Matthew 5:43-47 MSG)

Lord, give us the imagination to dream and catch glimpses of the life You intend for us to live. Show us how our individual lives are entwined with those around us, and help us to live so truly together that we embody your good news in this world. Amen.

Lord! Give me courage and love to open the door and constrain You to enter, whatever the disguise You come in, even before I fully recognize my guest.
Come in! Enter my small life!
Lay Your sacred hands on all the common things and small interests of that life and bless and change them.
Transfigure my small resources, make them sacred. And in them give me Your very Self. Amen

Dear God,
We loosen our grip.
We open our hand.
We are accepting.
In our empty hand
We feel the shape
Of simple eternity.
It nestles there.
We hold it gently.
We are accepting.
Amen.

“And it may please Thee, blessed Saviour, indeed, to speak to us; let each of us hear Thy blessed voice. May the feeling of our deep need, and the faith of Thy wondrous love, combined with the sight of the wonderfully blessed life Thou art waiting to bestow upon us, constrain us to listen and to obey, as often as Thou speakest: “Abide in me.” Let day by day the answer from our heart be clearer and fuller: “Blessed Saviour, I do abide in Thee.”
- a prayer from Andrew Murray (1828−1917) from his devotional writing "Abide in Christ"

Give me a candle of the Spirit, O God,
as I go down into the deeps of my being.
Show me the hidden things, the creatures of my dreams,
the storehouse of forgotten memories and hurts.
Take me down to the spring of my life,
and tell me my nature and my name.
Give me freedom to grow so that I may become that self,
The seed of which You planted in me at my making.

O God, You have let me pass this day in peace,
Let me pass the night in peace.
O Lord, who has no Lord,
There is no strength but in Thee.
Thou alone hast no obligation
Under Thy hand I pass the night.
Thou art my Mother and my Father. Amen

O Divine Heart of Peace, intervene in Love. Heal the fierce tearing of these divisions that You have not created, that You do not intend for us. You alone are good. You alone are true. Help us set aside all false gods and seek Your face. Let us see with Christ's eyes the love You have for each and every one - no matter their opinion, action, or inaction. Instead of declaring our "rightness" or bashing the spirits, the very humanity of our opponents, let us remember to pray that we ALL be caught up in YOUR righteousness (because You alone are good and true!). Let Your Kingdom come. We are not doing so well with our own.
Hosanna! Maranatha!

Sustain Me in the Coming Then
O God, empty me of angry judgments,
and aching disappointments,
and anxious trying,
and breathe into me
something like quietness
and confidence,
that the lion and the lamb in me
may lie down together
and be led by trust
as straightforward as a little child.
Catch my pride and doubt off guard
that, at least for the moment,
I may sense Your presence
and Your caring
and be surprised
by a sudden joy
rising in me now
to sustain me in the coming then.

Open wide the window of our spirits, O Lord,
and fill us full of light;
Open wide the door of our hearts,
that we may receive and entertain Thee with all
our powers of adoration and love. Amen.

Lord God, look upon your Church and send us your Holy Spirit to unite us in one body, with one faith and one hope. You created us with many differences, but with One Love. Help us to remember that You created each and every one of us in Your likeness and Your hope is our spiritual DNA. Bring us together, loving and serving You as we love and serve our neighbors. Breathe into us Your peace, so that we may grow together in the perfect love of your Kingdom with Christ our Lord. Hosanna. Amen.
